Medical coding is the process of giving diagnoses and treatments associated to the healthcare sector numeric or alphanumeric codes. Medical coders record diagnoses and procedures related to a patient's medical history using the International Classification of Disease (ICD) system.
Medical coders must analyse documents to assign precise codes, ensure coding correctness and compliance, track coding, enter data and update records, and speak with doctors, office personnel, and insurance companies to settle coding disagreements.
