Medical coding is the process of examining clinical claims and assigning standardized codes using a classification scheme, such as ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS, in order to precisely capture diagnoses, treatments, and procedures recorded by healthcare providers.
Depending on the course, there are some variations in the exam format for medical coding courses. Generally speaking, the exam is made up of a mix of written multiple-choice questions, written case study questions, and practical coding simulations.
